According to research, the No. 1 most valuable skill for the 21st Century is intercultural competence. The ability to code-switch and to make appropriate adaptations working with people from different cultures is therefore key to success in multicultural environments.
This training provides an overview of culture, explaining its importance and how it influences everyday interactions. It creates a framework and a vocabulary to talk about preferences, and to identify the adaptations that are needed to thrive in an intercultural environment.
Participants will gain self-knowledge that will help them to understand not only themselves but the cultural preferences of members, beneficiaries, partners and stakeholders who may have different cultural backgrounds.
During the training you will learn more about yourself and your cultural preferences, the place that we all fall back to under stress. This knowledge helps to expand your comfort zone and to ‘code switch’, adapting your own behaviour to the cultural preferences of others. This understanding will help you to get beyond any judgement you may have about other ways of working and it builds a framework to talk about differences and preferences in a neutral way.
Using a variety of tools you can find your own solutions through role-play and cases studies.
This competence is built by increasing self-awareness of our cultural preferences, and then learning about the preferences of each other. Through this process we gain a framework for learning what adaptations are needed and will result in building more effective relationships with intercultural colleagues, partners, members stakeholders and beneficiaries.
The training is practical and hands on, and skills are developed and supported throughout the day. Skills will be built using structured role-play, critical incidents, team work, self-reflection etc.
